WERA meet at Nashville

Postby billr » Sun Sep 26, 2010 7:18 pm

I made it to the Nashville Superspeedway for the WERA races.
Arrived in time for the morning practices, Minimotos running then, nothing like the sound of a 2-stroke wound tight... :25:
They pull in and another round starts off...4 cylinder wails, deeper twins...and what's that...a deep thump, thump, thump coming down the front straight. Couldn't see for the wall. I'm thinking somebody has a big DS 650 supermotard...what comes around the corner looks very familiar...YES, YES it is, A Skorp...

Turns out this was Kelly (rd400racer) and his son Nick.
Nice time spent with them talking about the Skorpions.

Da' Stands...not open for this event...pit passes... :D

Entry to the corner where I sat most of the time...great action

600cc Super Sports...best group shot of the day...

Dicing and duking...these guys went at it for 10 laps...

The best race of the day...750 Super Sport Expert. The orange bike in front won the green flag drag race to the first turn. The first 3 bikes in the pic stayed within 3 seconds of each other the entire 10 lap race. Orange bike kept up a good pace, would bobble a turn a bit, one of the others would gain a bit of ground in a corner, only to be too hot for the next transition and lose it back...

Ducati 748 sponsored by US129 Photo (one of the guys that take rider pics at the Tail of the Dragon). I saw it in the pits and it was almost to nice to race :09:

You guys ever seen a Rokon??? I only remember the ads from the '70s

Overall a very fun day. The sounds are so much better than on the TV and it was almost unbelievable seeing the speed on the straights.
Only 2 crashes, one injured pride and one with relatively minor injuries (probable broken hand)...his RC-51 didn't fare as well...
I'll be making more of these meets next year, loads of fun.
My wife'll kill me if I try to work up a track bike, though... :P
