hi folks . just got myself a 2002 bagihra.traded in a dr 350 supermoto and i am so glad i did.great bike ,more power /more torque and it suits my long legs too. only problem is its now winter here in uk so will have to wait for next year and some hot sticky tarmac before i can give it the full beans.i have no manual with it so i am looking for any service /repair manuals that are available. or just for now, what oil is recomended, where you check the level/is it the little screw cap on the left engine casing and where do you fill it up. call me blind/stupid but i cant see a filler plug.any info would be great thanks. shiny side up!

Look at the right hand side by the triples.Oh ya,the oil is in the frame.Welcome aboard. The oil goes in there as well, you will see it.You check it like a car.It has a long dipstick that goes down the frame.

Here you go on the 3rd post I posted pictures from the book. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2664

Mine was exactly the same. It seems there are some morons out there who buy a bike, run it, (or worse still, take money to service it!), and don't have a clue as to what a dry sump engine is. I got nearly 5 litres out of mine.

Drain it at the sump plug, remove the oil filter, remove the swarf filter at the bottom of the frame, and fill it back up with 3 litres of good quality motorbike oil. Run it around the block, 3 or 4 miles at least, then stand it upright for a couple of minutes, and then check the dipstick. Never check it cold, as the oil drains slowly into the sump. Some people say to check the oil level with a hot, running engine. Mine spits it out if I try that (the scavange pump squirts oil back into the oil tank, at the top. Of course as you discovered, the oil tank is your frame).

Cracking bike tho', aren't they? :smt023

Welcome aboard wookster :D

Pretty new round here myself

I got my Baghira a month or two ago but managed to get in a few blasts before the cold weather hit the UK.

Another new mz owner

I've recently joined this merry band. Was idly looking through the trader ads for a winter bike and saw a 02 Mastiff only 20 miles from where I live with 10k miles and 12month MOT for £1400. Went and had a look ( taking a mate who's a mechanical genius) and after some haggling got £100 off and a mastiff!
Despite the new MOT it needed some service parts, well in truth every service part imaginable, but with some not inconsiderable help from above mentioned mate and his bike servicing kit and know-how and about £200 of bits ( chain, sprockets, brake pads and cylinder seals, and set of Hein Gerike heated grips - will it is going to be a winter hack) bike was now mechanically sound but had major fault with an electrical problem. Much head stratching over wiring diagram until brainwave of English / German dictionay (Ge = Gelb = Yellow!)Then fault found. This got bike running a treat, what a hoot to ride, ok it is never going to set speed records but the 11 miles of twisty road to work is no longer a drudge and I get there with a daft grin on my face.
Next had to overcome cold start issue. Daft bugger who had it before me had been using bradex to get it to cold start! Bit of reading on this forum and found answer - give it a few turns then wait 5 seconds and repeat, seems to go on 3rd of 4th attempt, but choke not working properly so that is to be the final job to getting into A1 condition.
I wouldn't want to tour Europe on it, but I've got a Triumph Sprint for that, however as a daily ride /commute I love the bike, also as its easy to clean and maintain I'm looking forward so some happy winter rideouts in the Yorkshire dales / North Yorks Moors. The only complaint is from the wife who says the pillion seat isn't that comfy ( oh dear how sad, hee, hee!!)
Love the forum as it is a font of knowledge and wll definately be putting a few posts on here.

keep it rubber-side down!!

had my baghira for about 3 months now.really pleased with it. had a few minor niggles ,like the beowulf silencer melting the indicators, replaced them with flush fitting on the mudguard.headlamp was shite so replaced it with acerbis cyclop(what a transformation)the missus prefers my gsx 1400 so i took the the rear foot pegs off the mz. wont be needing them!anyway i dont want her gettin turned on from the vibes. she would end up off the back.just need some dry sticky roads to get it leaned over and a pair of 18"/21" wheels for winter, doesnt take much to spin up in the frost. roll on summer !was even considering some maxxis wets for the 17" ers. still pisses down in summer here far too much. anyone tried them? whats they like for mileage.got a feeling whatever i put on its gonna tear them up.choke lever was missing when i bought it so fitted a clutch lever assembly off a ccm with a decompression lever and fitted choke cable to it. works a treat.pull it in , press the starter release the lever and its away.no need to hold the choke on even at minus 10. great site, keep it up and stay shiny side up.
