comfortable motorcycle pants?

Postby OSPRNG » Thu Mar 10, 2011 5:48 pm

i've started commuting to work when the weather allows and so far i've been wearing jeans with some thermal layer underneath because walking around in leathers in the office is not practical.

was wondering what do you guys wear when you want to go casual riding but don't want to look like speed racer once off the bike.

One word... overpants (maybe two words?). I have a pair of tourmaster air something or other overpants. They came with a zip out waterproof liner and a zip out quilted liner to keep out the cold. CE armor in the knees and padding for the hips. Cost under $150. I have been wearing the same pair for a few years now and they are great. When you get to the office just slip them off.

I have been looking at an Olympia one piece suit but at nearly $400 it's a little out of my range. Maybe for next winter. :!:

Have you ever seen someone who's slid down the road off a bike whilst only wearing jeans? I have, its not pretty: bit like taking a cheesegrater to your legs. I wouldnt ride without leathers or the equivalent.

But to answer the question, I'd go for some Draggin' Jeans/Cargo pants. Not cheap but kevlar lined and look like normal trousers (sorry, pants!) if you want something you can wear all day.

I bought a roadcrafter suit a few years ago

http://www.aerostich.com/aerostich-suit ... -suit.html

They are expensive (cost me about £400 when the dollar/pound rate was in my favour) but you can wear anything underneath.

For casual trips I wear a cordura jacket (Shoshoni,UK made-no longer in business) and a pair of hood jeans (similar to draggin)

and carry a Hein Gericke waterproof oversuit.

I wear a pair of these (link below), with the ballistic nylon, venting at the back of the leg and CE knee pads. Pretty inexpensive and also (!) custom. I went to a local tailor and had him measure me as described on the website, sent the measurements in to someone there (it seems like a nice little company) and I got my chaps back less than 2 weeks after sending in the measurements. I love them. Comfortable, easy on and off, and easy to use pockets for all of the stuff you used to keep in your front jeans pockets (but can't now cause there's a pair of chaps in the way). Also, for those of us on this side, made in the USA.

I've been down the road too often not to wear leathers, so I've found an old locker I could use, and I go to work in the car once a week to take my shirts and trousers in. I have to wear a shirt and tie at work.

I've bought a pair of Hornee Kevlar jeans for the summer, but TBH they feel a bit flimsy, (despite being as well rated as any Kevlar jeans) so unless the weather gets stupid hot, I'll be in the leathers.
Baghira 660 for the road, CCM 404 for green laning. Singles rock!

OSPRNG, i have the draggins which i dont find very comfortable, but it might be just bad luck with this particular pair.
the kevlar layers are definitely impressive and worth the investment.

thanks for the link angustoyou. the cargo version looks comfy. too bad it only comes in camo at this time

the draggin shirt should be worn with a long sleeve shirt under it
as it will scratch your arms if it moves around a lot in the wind
i use a long sleeve cotton T shirt
and you can sun burn and wind burn on a hot day
