Project MZ

Postby mcmoto » Wed Jan 19, 2005 10:14 pm

Ok, Hello to all. I've just started a new project and found this forum. I was beginning to wonder if a forum existed for this bike...Not alot of information available on the net. I Just got this bike last week.

Project:

01 Skorpion Tour, Stripped and rebuilt to be a lean mean street monster!
Stage 3 Motor, Machined goodies, Hand laid Carbon Fiber Bodywork, Powdercoated this and Polished that....Its gonna be cool. Right now the plan is to be complete by November 05. Initial Pics forthcoming.

Breakdown:

How do you drain the Oil Tank under the seat? Is it the hose/clamp combo at the lower end of the tank?

I need a shop manual for this project. Anyone out there have a source? PDF, copies, fiche, Hell anyting would help.

Who is the Guru of motorbuilding in this MZ circle, or who is the go to guy for the Stage 3 parts. Possibly Machinework too.

Yea, I know that it will never sell for what I'm getting ready to do to it, But who Cares? It will be the Mutts Nutts for Sure!

tunebike in Germany has all the cool stuff for the motor, builds some supermono stuff I guess.

big bore kit, dual flat slide Mikuni's, upgated rev box, his headers, maybe Ti valves from Raptor... 80+ RWHP!!!!

anyone state side who does Raptor stuff can get ponies from our version.

I want to copy Baggy body panels in carbon, but can't find mold making info, you do this?

Phlat you might ask around - there are lots of guys doing carbon fiber. Clay Carrier composites might be one to ask, he is in So Cal. Another might be GP Glassworks. Just keep asking these guys are around.

If you make it they will come. I'd seriously be into a 4.5 gallon carbon fiber gas tank if it looked good and was say, $400 or less. Make sure it's alcohol proof - some gas these days eats fiberglass resin.

Slipstream tuning in the U.k can build ya a monster engine ......
http://www.supermono.co.uk/slipstream/

loads of stuff on the supermono website, we have been running a MuZ680(720) in the British supermono championship for the last 4 years :P

best place of 4th - but it is a bit special (expensive !)

I also have a scorp sport project I am currently assesing
have a look here http://groups.msn.com/GarysMuZScorpion not much there yet but i will be updating with info as the project gets along (the pictures sections has some stuff in it)

Also have a look here for one I built earlier !! http://groups.msn.com/Rowmx/muzsupermoto.msnw although this one was a baggy

Yea, That's what I'm Talkin' about....

Postby mcmoto » Thu Jan 20, 2005 1:43 pm

...80+ RWHP? Really?? I was betting on at least 70 at the most...

-Were Talkin:
12:1 compression w/ new pistion
Carillo Rod / Bearings
Ported Heads
Race Cams
Race Springs
Bigger Valves
New Carburation, Eddelbrock, Mikuni, Kehin?
Hand Made Exhaust
Higher Rev Limiter
High Octane Gas
Somewhere in the 3-4k price range, I am assuming...and getting about
70 HP on the dyno...More would sure be nice, but I know it costs too...

What Else is there to do to this motor? Anyone? Bueler?

Shipping back and forth overseas seems a bit much. Surely someone here
in the staes does this kind of motor work. Raptor Motors seem to different
for being the "same". Can I use a Raptor "motor man" for this work?

By the way, answer my question as to how to drain the oil....Please. Or
I'll just pop off that bottom hose on the Oil Tank and see what happens!

Carbon Hacker

Postby mcmoto » Thu Jan 20, 2005 1:46 pm

By the way, to answer the carbon question...

...I'm a carbon hack. Not a professional by any means. A Hobby is more
like it....

Gimmie Time and We'll see what I can produce!

Thanks for the info, guys!

Re rev limiter. The Yamaha TDM850 ignition unit fits and allows higer rpm. Carefull though as it might let teh engine to high.

Yea these thiong pop at much over 8500, I know that the supermono goes to 9000 but thats a race motor which gets re-built every four meetings.
To drain the oil use the engine drain plug under the engine.

Found it...

Postby mcmoto » Sat Jan 22, 2005 1:14 pm

Yea, I already drained the crankcase via the Oil Drian Plug..it was the
resivor tank under the seat that i was not sure how to drain. So I'm
going to start by disconnecting the feeder pipe from the tank to the
crankcase at the crankcase connection... I imagine that the key.

The project is going in to break in mode on sunday. Afterall, I'ts only
got 163 miles on her

Still looking for a manual, and a source for a aftermarket Rear Shock
and Front Fork Springs...anyone???

I can probably get them done here in the U.S. Although, problem (always) is you need a hefty minimum order to get them reasonably priced in limited quantity... minimum of like a dozen or so. Most of the cost will be in the molds, as most folks might know/guess.

No-way no-how, can you do a leak-proof (near impossible) carbon gas tank for $400, would be more like $1000+... then still, carbon parts can be brittle, esp. when trying to hold any fluids back, and repetitive use like on the street will surely warrant leaks.

Good deal... so the question is, is it leaking now? How long has he been using it if it's not?
