Where to start?

Postby maxbond1995 » Sun Aug 07, 2011 7:44 am

Hello to all MZ riders from Slovenia!

Few months ago I bought used MZ ETZ 125, not in very well shape. I'm about to fix and maybe also restaurate it.
Now I want to know where to start restauration. I'm not new in motorcycles, I also work at motorcycle mechanic as a student.
But I, however, want to know some basic steps where to start, without ruin any part or cause damage to the motorcycle.

Thanks and sorry for bad English!

Here are also some pictrues of it:

Another question:

What are all keys that I need to dismantle the engine from the frame? I need quick answer!

Again, I think you need to get a manual.
All you need to get the motor out is a 13mm spanner and 13mm socket with an extension bar.
To answer you original question you have to decide what you want: full restoration or a useful runabout.
If you want to get it going, I would clean out the tank, the tap and carb. I would replace the HT lead, cap and sparkplug as well as the silencer, check the timing, replace the tyres and the chain, check the front sprocket. Lube the cables and adjust and off you go.

The front forks will probably need new seals and oil, maybe some spacers.

I have fond memories of a very nice Slovenian girl I once met - utterly charming.

let us know how you get on
All the best

I have a manual and today I managed to dismantle engine from the frame. I'm going to service and check entire engine for damage.
