500 Carb question

Well I got my 500 S Star home today. When I picked it up the guy said he ran the bike a couple of weeks ago and it ran fine but he ran it yesterday and it wouldn't go above 3000rpm he thought it was probably a clogged jet. That's a possibility but he kick started it (bad sprague) and it was cold (cool) and it started on the first kick. I wa shocked after all I had read about how hard these are to kick start. I am thinking more likely it might be a vacuum diaphram. Are these diaphrams still available and how expensive are they? Then I'm thiking maybe just forget the Bing and go to a Delortto PHM 38. Has anyone gone the Delortto route on this list? I understand that's what they use in Europe. BTW Don the muffler is an A2. The bike actually looks better in person than on the ebay ad. Oh, I almost forgot. I went to pull the seat. Looks like you must remove the 2 rear bolts and then slide it back. Is that right?

check the carb for water in the bowl
and if he kick started it i want to know his secret

and stay with the bing its paid for

the number on my 95 saxon tour
carb =54/33/30? the question mark looks like a 4 but is worn so bad i am in doubt

Agree. I'd also like to know the kick start secret. You should order the diaphragm/o-ring kit from Bing and replace it all; probably all the originals are still there. Also some of the Bings came with a piston return spring, some didn't. According to Bing it should be there. I ordered it from Bing (ask for Charlie) and replaced it while I was in there. It runs better across the entire power band with the return spring. The correct Bing carb number is 64/33/304. There are plenty of parts diagrams on the web for the Bing type 64 carbs, search and you will find. They are all basically the same. The old BMW airheads used them extensively.

And yes, that's how you remove the seat. :-D

3. choke full on
4. decompression in
5. 5-6 gentle kicks ( i did 10 in this clip!)
6. decompression out
7. find the first lobe.
8. push past it into the center
9. push just past the second lobe
10. 100% throttle
11. kick.

If it fails go back to number 7

I remember reading something along this line years ago when I was looking at big Honda dual sports.

i saw the utube bet it does not have the bing carb

Full throttle and choke. Have not tried that. Doubt if it would work with the Bing 64 carb though, flood city. Mine starts best with no throttle and one click of the choke. The MT500s AFAIK came with Amal carbs, and most of those have usually been upgraded to Mikunis. I had an old Honda XR 650 back when they were all red and kick start only. That bike started easily compared to the Silvy.

You guys would know those better... :D
I just did a google search for "kickstarting a Rotax".
Of the kick-start bikes I've ridden over the years, not a one of them would use the same "method", sometimes, even the same model :D
A couple of them did benefit from the slow priming kicks, though.
Just never knew where to hold the throttle...it's warm or cold outside...
