Postby boudreaux » Wed Sep 14, 2011 12:13 pm

hey it's me again haha. for some reason my brake light is not staying on unless i engage the brakes. i was wondering if my missing front blinkers had anything to do with it. does anyone have any wiring diagrams or advice on how to fix this? thank y'all so much!

I'm hoping he means the "running/tail light" (in the USA, our lights have to be on when the bike is running, so they're switched with the key)

I had a very nice policeman pull me over early one morning to tell me the same thing. (didn't get a ticket, he just wanted me to fix it)
I thought "bad bulb"...nope, not that...
The tail-light had a wire pulled loose at the connectors.
Check the bulb, then the wires (sorry, don't have a 500 diagram)

check bulb most have 2 lamps in 1 bulb
tail is on all the time its the dimer side of bulb
brake lamp is the bright filament
bulb number is usually 1157 most bikes

my 95 saxon tour has brown = ground
and gray and black
i think the gray is tail lamp the dim side of the bulb
my bike a 95 Saxon Tour has 1 1156 bulb its an led installed by the previous owner not me

MZ 500s have two separate bulbs, one for the tail lamp (running light) and one for the brake lamp. The tail lamp is switched on with the key; it's the gray wire. Check for 12V with the key on at the lamp socket gray wire, if not there replace the bulb. The black wire is the brake lamp 12V and the brown wire is the shared ground for both bulbs.
