:idea: Has anyone ever fitted a sidecar to a TS150?

Factory never did that because of not enough power so I doubt any one would try doing that

GOOD WAY TO BLOW A MOTOR
ONLY REASON TO DO IT TO A 150CC 2 SMOKER
IS YOU WANT IT TO DIE VERY QUICKLY

THE ONLY MOTORS I HAVE TRASHED WERE A 500CC AND A 600CC
BMW AND THEY WERE IN GOOD SHAPE WHEN I START
AND BOTH WERE DEAD IN LESS THAN 20,000 MILES...
SO THE SIDE CAR IS STORED IN THE SHED

yea but MZ 250 were handling sidecars no problem from what I know they had changed gearing so they went slower but had more power and I never heard any one saying that their 250 died because of sidecar

we run side cars hard here in the usa the fellows in europe would be appalled at how hard we are on them

example BMW r90/6 motor in /2 chassis with bingham car
Denver Colorado to Erie PA in about 20 hours
interstate I80 1,433 miles

I suppose my reasons for considering an outfit vary from owning a ts150 - engineering challenge - to mild insanity.
I've identified some fixing points and have a loose idea of a chassis and suspension, I reckon with the gearing lowered at the primary drive and and gearbox sprocket it would manage to pull a lightweight chair at around 45 mph. which for bimbiling around my local roads and hills would be adequate. A long haul hi -speed outfit it definately will not be.
Then of course the exciting bit will be learning to drive it. :roll:
My last and only experience of driving an outfit was as a teenager on a mates model 16(18?) Norton, which for some reason; on a long sweeping left hand bend suddenley and for no apparent reason turned right, mounted the pavement, through a hedge and into a potato field :oops:
I have many miles under my belt as a passenger in a Busmar Double Adult hitched to a T110 Triumph piloted my my dad till we moved up market to a Mini van with some old seats bolted in the back. I suppose a shrink would have a field day with this but what the hell :D

big sprocket on the rear and do not plan on going much over 35mph
and stay off streets posted 40mph or over
my 1953 bmw r51/3 with a r60/2 motor was hard pressed to do 55mph
with me and the wife on board and the chair was fiberglass at about 135lbs
and it just worked that motor to death even empty on runs to the
food store
so now i get to overhaul an r60 motor a r50s motor and the original motor for the r51/3
i never fixed ,,,i am going to have a busy retirement

I saw in the late 60's and early 70's many 125/150/175 Lambrettas and Vepas pulling a diminutive Bambini single seater, So I hope the MZ will do the same. Initially it will just be a small box on the chassis till its sorted out then I'll hand build a small single seat. It is unlikely that i'll ever put another sole in the chair bearing in mind my novice status and the power available. Its more about the challenge of building it and learning to handle it. I reckon it will be quite an unusual outfit that will attract some interest.
Whilst I'm here I'm thinking of converting the ts150 to 12v with one of those kits has anyone done this is it worth it?

about 12v conversion

I haven't done it but i know 120watts of power will be better than standard 60watt alternator and you've got electronic ignition instead of contacts which can be annoying
And if you convert to 120watt you can put lights on your sidecar I'm sure standard alternator would be not enough to do that

Looks like that is the way to go Lights on the sidecar and a bloody big 12v battery as ballast :D

I think 12v 9ah battery is enough and may be same size as standard TS 150 Battery not sure doe

I'll take your that for that, but a few spare amps are always usefull :shock:

True they are sometimes useful but I think on that dynamo kit 9ah would be enought
