Another motorcycle nut joins the forum

Postby JoeGilmore » Sat Feb 25, 2012 12:02 pm

Hi all,
My name is Joe Gilmore & I live in the far western area of Maryland, USA.
I became a bike nut in 1965 & currently own 22 bikes (23 if I can find a real nice DT250 or 360).
I own a 1994 MuZ Silver Star Classic & a 2002 MZ Skorpion Sport Tour. I used to own a Baghira (nicknamed "The HellBitch")---which I loved---but it was just too tall for me and I sold it about 3 years ago to a guy from the DC area.
I am looking forward to being an active participant on this site.
It's 37 degrees (F) here, and the sun is shining well enough to have melted last night's inch of snow---so it's time for a ride!

i'd like to hear what bikes you've had, since 1965, and what those other 21 bikes are. :>

To answer a couple of questions:
I live in Allegany County---not quite as far west as the Oakland/Deep Creek Lake area but still far enough away to not consider ourselves part of the DC/Baltimore corridor.
I belong to the FSSNOC, MGNOC, VJMC & am a Charter Life member of the AMA.
In 1965, a well-off neighbor bought matching brand-new British twins for himself and his oldest son---and proceeded to give everyone in town who wanted a ride a tour through the local area. I had just turned 9---and begged my parents for permission to go. They said "OK" and I got my first bike ride---an exhilarating experience! In return for additional bike rides that summer, I did most of the son's chores (mostly lawn work). To this day, I still believe that that was a fair trade. It started me off on a life-long love of motorcycles---all kinds, no prejudices.

Currently in my garages: 1990 Buell RS1200; 1988 Ducati Paso 750; 1995 Ducati 900SS CR; 1996 BMW R1100GS; 2002 BMW R1150GS; 2007 BMWF650GS (a Thumper, not the neutered twin); 1989 Honda Hawk GT650 (NT650 Deauville in Europe); 1978 Honda CB750F SS; 2007 Triumph Scrambler; 2009 Suzuki GS500F; 1991 Suzuki VX800; 1989 Honda NX250; 2009 Yamaha XT250; 2007 Moto Guzzi Norge; 2001 HD FXDXT "T-Sport"; 2009 Buell Ulysses XB12XT; 1994 MuZ Silver Star Classic; 2002 MZ Skorpion Sport Tour; 2009 Kawasaki KLR 650; 1998 Triumph T595 Daytona; and (two) 1986 Yamaha SRX-6 "Super Singles".
I have been blessed.

PS Brian---I've had hundreds of bikes starting with a burned-up step-thru Honda in 1969. I used a tomato juice can for a gas tank on it!
Some stayed in my garage for decades---some came & went in a month. Many I still regret selling/trading---I kick myself in the arse on a regularly basis. Others I was glad to see leave. Unfortunately, I think I've killed too many brain cells over the last 40 years to be able to remember even half of them...

C'mon up, Chip!
Give me a "heads-up" at joe.gilmore1@gmail.com first to make sure I'll be around.

There are plenty of nice 2-lanes between Frederick & my place---regardless of whether you stay in MD or cross over to WV & then ride west.

Another western MDer here. I haven't been on here much since I sold the Saxon Country back in '08. Was a nice enough bike for the road, but really didn't have adequate suspension for anything more serious than graded fire roads off-pavement. I'm using the "heart" of a Saxon Tour in my latest project, a '91 ATK 604. I'm presently working on rebuilding and lowering the suspension so I can actually ride it! Here I'm "mocking up" a few bits to see how much of a spacer to put in the shock.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying riding the '77 Yamaha XT500 I've had since late '09. Was just up in the Frederick (MD) Watershed and Michaux St. Forest (PA) riding Saturday - beautiful day and I had a great time.

Always good to hear from you, Charlie!
Glad to see that you're still making steady progress on your ATK/MuZ Frankenbike!
