MY REVERSE TRIKE POWER BY A MZ 660 Skorpion

some of you may not approved of taking a perfect working bike and constructing a machine like this but i did it. caus i love quads and motorcyles and now i have the best of both worlds. btw it will be street legal

hello

be carefull sorting out the handling
that short wheel base may bite you on the ass
be carfull with the front brake adjustments

i made one in the 1970,s from a bmw r60 and a vw front end
it had drum front brakes
and it could be a beast on wet pavement
in fact i never let any one else ride it
as it was to easy to spin out

you have any pics of it. i will be very careful with it. i don't plan to ride highways with it until i get an extended rear swingarm and wheel spacers and shorter shocks for the rear. for now this is for local street with no speeds higher then 45 mph

I bet neither of your trikes handled as bad as mine. Check out the forks made out of two leaf springs off a car. Truly a "Widowmaker".

lol nope it's not a quad no more, just has quad components of it. the original quad was a raptor which used the 660 cc engine that MZ created. but the MZ is more powerfull and slightly larger then the atv 660cc engine

Actually Yamaha created the engine then MZ bought them for their streetbikes. A bit after that Yamaha changed the cases and put a different gearbox in them and made the quads. The quad engine is not any more or any less powerful and has the exact same size as an MZ.

i have to disagree with the raptor and the mz being the same size. there is a difference. the mz is slightly larger. i believe all the cases on the mz except for the top end is different from a raptor. i own a raptor as well. so i should know. i hope the stator is the same, cause those lights drain the battery out and i'm afraid that i will be stuck somewhere with a drained battery. i just sent my application the the DMV today. once it's road legal i plan to drive it in NYC

Sorry guys but this engine started life in a Yamaha solo bike, the XTZ and SZR 660's. The first 660 engine appeared in a standard road gong bike in I think the early to mid 90's. Not sure which year, but I can find reference to a 1991 model in after market catlouges in the UK. After I wrecked my MZ engine I replaced it with a 1995 Yamaha XTZ660 engine. The XTZ660, also called the 660 Tenere was based loosley on the XT600.
As far as I can tell the XTZ SZR Raptor and the MZ engine all have a common capacity wirth a 100mm diameter piston. If you look at after market pistons the standard piston is listed as 100mm for both the MZ and the Raptor. The MZ/XTZ/SZR engines are modified for racing in Europe and the engine builders tell me they are the basically same engine.
MZ purchase the engine units off of Yamaha with a rebadged right hand (clutch) outer case.
The XTZ/SZR engine bolt straight into the MZ chassis.
I have also looked at the XT600 and the new XT660X Yamaha and it would appear that the engines should be interchangable (the measurements betwen engine mounts are the same), obviously without the cooling system for the XT660 engine unit.
I have not seen a raptor close up, but the cases were modified for later models to allow for a spin off type oil filter.

if you would like to see close up of the raptor let me know. i own one and i know for a fact they are not direct bolt ons. i wish they were it would have made my life easier cause making those motor mounts was a challenge by myself and getting alligned too

Raptor and XTZ/MZ 660 engines are identical from the base gasket up, but the cases and transmissions are different.
The raptor has its cylinder at a more sloped angle (I'm guessing to keep it low in the frame) and the cases are different to match. The stators should be the same but the timing marks on the raptor flywheel will not work with the MZ cases because of the cylinder angle difference.
High compression pistons and cams made for the raptor will work in the MZ engine, and possibly valvesprings, altho I have not verified that they use the same diameter springs and valves, altho they prob do.

My old shop made valves for the Raptors, MZ's and Yamah SZR660 (European model) and they were all identical. As someone said from the base gasket up every part is interchangable.

I was under the impression the raptor 660 used Titanium valves, and had 2000 more revs to the rev limiter. am I wrong??
