Hopefully I will a bit of spare cash soon and I'm thinking of putting a powerdynamo set up on my Trophy. Has anybody used one and what are they like to put on and set up properly? I recently melted a piston in the bike that I'm pretty sure was to do with timing issues so I'm a little paranoid about setting it all up. I do like the idea of 12volts though and not having to fiddle with points.

friend put one on an r60/2 bmw several years ago...he loved it
he said all the problems with his carbs working correct went away..
he got away from the weak spark from the mag...
if your planing on keeping it its a good investment
just remember to change all the bulbs
to 12volt and some of the relays
the horn will be very loud unless you can raid someones spares box for a 12volt unit

The only thing I can see that is a seriouse issue with the power dynamo set up when used in the uk, is that it works without a battery so when the engine stops, so do your lights....

There are two different powedynamo setups. One with and one without battery.
ES250 Doppelport, ES250, ES250/1, ES250/2,ETS 250, ES150, ETS150, BK350, IWL Pitty, SR56 Wiesel, SR59 Berlin, Troll............ and thats just the German two strokes!

my friend did his with a battery but added the Capisitor and a switch so he could use the cap
if the battery went dead while away from service

Sounds good so far. There are two ways to set it up apparently - one with and one without a battery. I would have one - don't really see the advantage of not doing.

lot of areas require at least the parking lamps to work for a time
for safety reasons like parked on edge on a busy main road at night

Bit of an update on the powerdynamo thread. I bit the bullet and sent off my 200 quid to the MZ shop and got my shiny powerdynamo in return a couple of days later. I fitted in myself and once you have read the pigeon english instructions a few times it all makes sense and is quite straightforward. Got everything together and kicked it over and to my surprise it started first kick and was charging at 13.5 - 14.5 volts. Ive only done a few miles on it so far but it's very promising. The bike is a lot easier to start and sounds generally healthier and a bit crisper.
One of the main reasons I put it on was to improve the lighting. it is 100% better now - I can see in the dark and people can see me when I'm indicating.

I think I've decided to put the system on my bike, is it best to get it from MZ-B or is it cheaper/better from somewhere in the UK? If anyone has bought one from MZ-B how long did it take to arrive? Many thanks

I've been out on mine today and did about 60miles. First proper ride since fitting it. Easier starting and it runs smoother all round. Money well spent.
Anyway - Phil Speakman sells them at the MZ Shop. I paid £205 for mine plus about a tenner P&P. That price was comparable to the Powerdynamo site itself and I spoke to Phil and asked him a few questions first. Seemed easier than having to contend with a language barrier. And it only took two days to get here.
