Should I sell it whole or part it out?

Postby whicks3 » Sun Sep 02, 2012 8:17 pm

I have a 99 Skorpion traveller with just 4300 miles on it.Except for the typical paint loss on the tank from the ethanol in the fuel,it is in near mint condition. I need to sell it ,and as I stated in my thread title, I'm debating about selling it as a running machine,or parting it. I'm sure with the growing scarcity of spares for these machines I would eventually get more out of it parting it out,but as a motorcyclist, it's hard to take what could be the nicest Traveller in the country and turn it into a pile of parts. My friend is a painter, and I can get the tank back to perfect for $100 .Any thoughts?

as rare as they are i think only one that is too expensive to fix should be parted out ..

it can take several years to sell one in parts
but selling one as a whole bike is also a waiting game

i know guys that have been riding 60 years or more and have no clue what an MZ is
or any thing about them....
so you have to advertise it and hang in there because its some thing only a select group of buyers want...

Sorry this took so long, had a modem failure. You guys are right of course, and money isn't that important. I was just trying to make room for my dad's 2 BMW's. He had to switch to an MP3-400,bad legs kept him from swinging his leg over the seat,84 years old and arthritis does that to you. My riding buddy who sold me this bike has offered storage space till spring, and I'll figure out what to do with it then. It's light handling makes it a great "Gap" bike, and since I live right where the "Tail of the Dragon" is,it's been fun, even with all the cops we have on there now, dealing with all the wrecked cruisers.Ride Safe!! I thought it's about time I posted a pic of my bike. This was on Deal's Gap in June of this year. I run into a few old timers who know what an MZ is,but not many. I'm 61,and grew up around the 2 stroke enduro style MZ's,along with all kinds of obscure euro bikes. I'm home most of the time, and since we have an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 bikes come through here every year, I try to help riders in need.I'm in the book under William Hicks, Robbinsville,NC.if you ever need help. My town is kinda the staging area for The Dragon, and theCherohala Skyway. http://www.dealsgap.com/

I just missed you and "Namikuz" too.
I was there June 23rd...Killboy Photo.
Live in Nashville and try to make it down there a couple of times each year.
Next time I plan to go, I'll shoot you a message. Imagine 2 MZs there at the same time...and if Namikuz can make it in from Utah...3.

I drooled over those, but they were just a bit more than I wanted spend when I bought my Tour.
Love the Traveller.
