RT125 Strut adjustment.

Postby djsbriscoe » Sun Sep 09, 2012 10:40 am

Any suggestions on getting the large 32mm nut (1) to loosen on the rear strut of my RT125?

I'm not sure if it's a right or left handed thread. I have to try to loosen the nut whilst the strut is installed otherwise I won't be able to get enough leverage on it. I have the appropriate large open ended spanner of course as well as both of the short stubby ones in the OEM "toolkit".
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

David.

Penetrating oil - spray oil, like WD-40 or whatever. Spray from the top of the nut. Spray every evening for a few days. You could try again after it's had 24 hours or so to penetrate. When you get it to move, stop and lubricate the thread below the nut. ...i'd put a few drops of oil - motor oil on top and let it penetrate for a few minutes as well.
It would be a normal righthand thread - unless it's a real oddity.

I'm not removing/replaceing it, only adjusting it. It's probably a Bilstein anyway.

Try using a spring compressor to compress the spring (Doh!). This should releave the pressure on the nuts allowing them to turn.
