Registering a Simon Schwable KR51/1 in the UK

Hi everyone

I've stumbled across this site and am really hoping you guys can help, else I give up!

I brought a Simon Schwalbe KR51/1 moped with me from Germany to London about 8 years ago, but haven't had any luck in getting the thing on the road. My problem is that I have NO IDEA where to start with registering, taxing, MOTing (if needed for a 2 stroke?) and insuring.

I've ordered papers from the DVLA (none make any sense to me), I'm having issues finding a service garage who would MOT it (if I need to???), etc etc.

Can anyone please kindly shed some light on the matter so I can get the thing on the road and drive it? I had it fully serviced before I left Germany, so don't antipicate any major probs with it, but who knows....

The advice I would like to give is that you've got no chance, you should give up now and sell it to me for £50. However, you'd probably be more sensible to get in touch with the MZ Riders Club, particularly their Classics Officer, who has posted on here a couple of times.

Agree with Mr Luke, get in touch with the classics officer at the MZ Riders Club. If he can't help with a dating certificate he will probably know who can. Any garage that does motorbike MOTs should be able to do the Schwalbe.

Seconded. Get yourself a dating certificate and get an MOT . Anywhere can do it and they will do it on the frame number as it isn't registered here yet. You'll also need to insure it on the frame number. Your insurance company will give you a cover note that you can take to the DVLA with your MOT and dating certificate and then you will get an age related UK registration.
