Long live the East

Ave. After so many years with four cylinders and a lot of HP...back to the roots...

For sure a different and...dare to say...better bike, than my legendary XT 600 1989 (2KF). A true offspring!

Wont bother you with the typical banalities of admiring my own bike, etc. I think you all have a clue of what this beast is capable of...

Just wanna share a few modifications and some fine tuning...

As you can see, front mudguard is a classic universal Acerbis.
Also the headlamp is a lighter Acerbis than the factory one.
Of course the handguards are Acerbis also.
The front plastic side panels (on the tank) are from an earlier KTM. Needed some mods (cutting the material in specific spots) but finally, we do have a match.
That swingarm is a Mastiff one (you can clearly see lesser distance between the wheel and shock fender). It's shorter than baghira by 25mm. So, wheelbase now is 1505mm, more agile.
The exhaust headers are larger both OD and ID mm (38>32 and 36>28 mm). A handmade link pipe matches my spare carbon can from my YZF 1000.....Dolby Surround.

Last but not least.....I didnt like the idea of flatslide carbs (Mikuni TM34 or Keihin FCR35) due to my pure stock motor. I know that these things wont show their potential on a stock engine. Besides, I didnt want to lose the smooth and crisp acceleration, that Yamaha offers with the YDIS. But...I needed something more than that...
In my XT 600 2KF, I mentioned before, I had replaced the factory carbs (27 main - 30 slide) with the newer from the >1998 TTR600 (not the old upsidown fork). That TTR600 has a slightly larger main carb (30mm) and same slide carb (30mm). I remember, as long as I managed to drive my XT, that there was a noticeable improvement. So, when I bought the Baghira, I thought of the same thing. Transplant the larger TTR600 carbs. But we did had a problem. Or maybe two problems...

Baghira's main (left) carburettor is 26mm<30mm TTR600. But the slide (right) carb is 36mm>30mm TTR600. So, I thought of join them together (the 2 larger ones).

But then, I faced the second problem, that seemed quite serious. The linkage between each of the two different carbs set up.....is way different. For an instance, I thought I should quit of an upcoming modification nightmare. But as you all understand, I am not a give up boy. Finally and after some hours of nuclear physics, I figured it out. The main 30mm TTR600 carb, joined together with the stock slide 36mm Baghira carb. Game, set, match.

And I can assure you it works. No hick ups, no caughing at all, no dead spots through the whole rpm range, crispy and responsive throttle...better than stock. Indeed.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this knowledge, for any future reference about cheap but not cheapy carb tuning. It works and it works better.
