New Mastiff owner - South West U.K.

Postby Gdj444 » Thu Jul 11, 2013 7:19 am

Hi, this morning I bought a 2003 blue Mastiff

Picking it up tomorrow but test ride was good, a little cosmetically challenged but mechanically very sound.

Recently sold my Fazer 600 to pay a vets bill and the Mastiff has been purchased for what's was left over, only a sunny Sunday rider so should be perfect for bimbling around the back lanes for Devon.

Booked in for a service next week, and also to fit a nice after market exhaust that came with the bike, I quite like the looks of the bike but the standard exhaust is hideous so I think I've been lucky to get the exhaust with it.

Will no doubt be on here from time to time asking stupid questions

All the best

Welcome!

Dont fancy doing the service yourself? oil/filter/spark plug are very easy to do. You can get the oil/filter/spark from ebay and then you just need a drain pan and some spanners.

Fitting the exhaust should be just a case of unscrewing the bolts and tugging off the old one, and then jamming on the new one , tightening and bolting back up.

There is a mixture screw on the bottom of the carb to increase/decrease the fuel air mix on the first part of the throttle opening, the garage "might" tweak that for you. But probably not.

Lots of advise to be had here if you get in trouble.

Thanks, but am a complete idiot when it comes to mechanics, usually end up costing me more to put right than it would have done for the garage to do in the first place!

My very local garage use to be a MZ dealer and are very reasonable, they also give me a bit of priority in emergencies as I am a regular customer so happy for them to do it, they will also give it a thorough check over to give me some peace of mind as I'm in mid forties now and more risk averse than I used to be.

Hi Gareth, are you somewhere near Ottery?

The local MZRC section have a few members with 660's, my Skorpion (Exeter), another in Tiverton, and a 52 plate Mastiff in Exeter. Ask away if you have questions.

Hi, I am exactly in Ottery!, good to know there are few experts around in case I get stuck, Browns in Ottery are my garage and I think they used to sell MZ back in the 80''s , had some mates buy their 125's from them, saw Graham in Browns today and he wasn't fazed at all by my purchase, in fact he loves MZ so that augers well for the future.

May be a MZ meet up at Bridge sometimes is in order :D
