Has MZ folded yet again?

Postby iaMZip » Fri Aug 02, 2013 8:47 am

I follow Ostbikes on facebook, and they posted a link to the MZ website (www.muz.de). It has been changed - It's all in german, so I can't really read it, and says something about continued distribution of spare parts. Anyone heard anything?

I understand, fortunately I'm not looking for any parts right now, just wondering if anyone has any news on the company.

The company had the last rites read a couple of months ago. The http://www.muz.de/ site is now a company selling remaining spares and apparently sourcing other parts to keep the bikes on the road. They have some unobtanium listed.. such as 125 cdi's at €111 .

MZ was finally declared dead in May. Martin Wimmer and Ralf Waldman bought up the remains in 2009. IFRC sometime at the back end of last year or early this year the company was put into voluntary liquidation, but could have been rescued if someone had come up with €1m. Seeing that Martin Wimmer had been declared bankrupt late 2012 no one came forward and the company was wound up.

interestingly MZ Motorrad- Und Zweiradwerk Gmbh was sold by Hong Leong Industries, the Malaysian company that had bought MZ in the late 90s, to a German citizen named Che Mingde on the 26th January 2013 for the grand sum of €1!

he gets the rights to the mz name that way
