Anything over 3.1mm is fine. The springs should be 49mm long. Quite possible its just the plates that are glazed. Rub the plain plates with some wet and dry. Soak the friction plates in petrol for a couple of hours ( or overnight) giving an occasional scrub with a tooth brush. Allow to dry then give a light rub over with some coarse wet and dry ( not to much , you don't want to remove too much material. Reassemble , new oil and see how you go.
Thank you so much for the fantastic advice..... all went to plan and yes the clutch is fully operational again - all the measurements were well in spec, but the plates etc were very dirty, plus the bike had stood for many years.
So I am most grateful for the help and the cost saving too - wonderful...... cheers Jacquesvins
