Hello everyone, just introducing myself, David, live near York England. Just bought a 96 MZ500r with 9900 miles on it. Took it out for a run first time yesterday,
and enjoyed it. But had a scare when oil press. light came on a mile from home! But thanks to this forum found out not a lot to worry about. Next job, oil and filter plus sump and gauze. I think i could grow to like this bike.

Welcome David. I've had a Saxon Country 500 and currently own a Silver Star. Both great fun and quite fuel efficient as well. Best of luck with yours!

i have a 1995 Saxon tour with the 500 rotax
also a 97 660 traveller
i like the Saxon tour the best...

but watch the steering stops on the front end i almost took out the mail box when i went to turn into the
driveway one day the turn ing is a bit limited

Thanks for welcome, will try a few tight turns next time out, ordered a cambelt last night, may as well do it when changing oil and filter.
Its only done 9900 miles, but it is nearly 20 years old so belt may have deteriorated. Funny I,m back on an Mz, started off at 16 on a Simson, because my FS1E
wasn.t ready, had 2 simsons in the end. Also had a 250 ETZ in the 80s, that was a cracking little bike, very underrated by those not in the know. Anyway, girlfriend and me both insured for MZ so roll on spring.

these are very rare bikes
do take good care of it ..
and good luck
the rear tire on mine is an odd size for the usa 110/80x16
and hard to find. I have Pirelli fitted find them a bit slick when its wet

Brick paved streets in my town are a nightmare when wet

rear is 120/80-16 front is 3.00s x18 rear is same as Buell blast rear

it handles good but do not daydream when riding it the steering is very quick

Girl watching will get you off the road very quick!

DO inspect the hoses under the fuel tank for clearance some of mine were rubbing the tank
and the breather from valve cover to the frame tank needed changed from age

its hard to get at and is best changed at home not on the road (been there done that)

Yes, found out the quick handling trait, feels just like the ETZ 250, just starting to realise how rare these are, but I think it still needs using, of course I will endeavour to look after it as best I can. This is a great forum, with lots of info. Thanks. and regards, David.

Evening, well i did a bit of maintenance last night, before a trip out on Saturday to the N. Yorks. moors. Cambelt went on in ten minutes, carb. stripped and cleaned in half an hour, plug out and gapped 2 minutes, oil filter, sump gauze, new oil 2 hours !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a mockery of a sham!!!! I have never ever had a bike that was such a faf to change oil etc, and mess, well i must have used half a mile of blue roll. Anyway happy now, at least its ready for a good ride. Cold starts, still learning, seems to flood easily, so this morning, from cold, didnt use choke, just gave it half a dozen squirts with twistgrip and it caught 2nd time. I think it needs a good run. Anyways regards to all, David.

Yes Dave, read it, very helpful, the mess was my fault really, mainly whilst filling thro the ridiculously small filler neck, modified an old worn set off mole grips with 2 halves of 10mm bar welded to jaws as a clamp for spine tank main feed pipe, worked a treat and didnt damage pipe. need to fab a tee with valve and bung for the future. Need a new twistgrip rubber, tried burwins but they away till tomorrow, old ones perished.
