MZ 125 clutch

Hey!

lately my bike has been reving freely a lot whilst i insert gear. In a fe words I think I wore out my clutch. What do I ahve to buy exactly. Just a friction plate or the whole set (EDIT DEAD LINK HERE and add //try ebc KIT CK4436 dave)
Please note that I have not opened up my bike yet but I am sure that it is a clutch problem. I just do not know what buy to replace the worn parts

there is an adjustment on the cable and an adjustment on the basket in side

green arrow = adjustment
black arrow = clutch springs not in picture
RED ARROW oil pressure spring and ball bearing do not loose
make sure its in there
make sure you use a good side cover gasket as its thickness effects oil pressurw spring

i remove battery and lay bike on its side ----saves hunting for oil ball and spring.....
i would replace the whole set


blue = the location of the famous freewheel drum
the copper thing in front is a 2 way slip clutch it gets galled and does not slip when it should --breaking the freewheel
book says not field adjustable but i did after breaking 3 freewheel drums

good side cover gasket.. an original one would do ?

i try to keep a couple side cover gaskets in stock as waiting 7 to 14 days to get one stinks
you may salvage the old gasket -- maybe not and oil leaks are no fun
and how many miles on bike
i would replace the whole kit springs and all

i have 18 500 miles on my clutch it still works ok but all adjustment play is gone
so it will be a winter project here
and i got lucky i bought a spare engine and it had an extra complete clutch basket with it
so i got a low cost clutch replacement .its used but still almost new specification

also there are 2 rods and a ball bearing in the center of the main shaft when you have clutch apart do not
let them fall out they will stay if bike is laying on left side or leaned that way
do look at parts book before taking it apart
very simple bike to work on ---- most of my problems have been the electrical stuff

some of the new bike i have been working on the electrical stinks
the designers are doing such a poor job and the parts and wires are of poor quality
they are actually making JOE LUCAS the original prince of darkness look like he knew what he was doing.....

Hi Dave
Do you happen to know the thickness of the clutch cover gasket? I have struggled to find a Quality replacement in the UK and happy to make my own but after seeing a few other posts it is clear the thickness is important. All roads lead to you on this subject and I was hoping you could help?

item 17 depends on your serial number
and 14 15 and16 is the oil pressure parts
the paper gasket you can make
it just needs to be the correct thickness so it does not effect the oil pressure

i have a new one in the basement but nothing to measure its thickness with till later

as lights are off in the basement working on the electric supply and hunting for some thing with a flashlight
is a bit of a pain// tomorrow maybe

these bikes are nice and well worth fixing if you can
as no one is making any thing that compares ..

I agree I have inherited mine off of my srep son who came off (nothing serious) and quickly lost intrest in bikes.

Shes a bit beat up and I finally got her started on the button once I changed the sprag clutch (thank you for all your help on that one btw ) and the standard carb clean where it was stood for too long.

Ive only managed to test ride it around the block due to the dodgy gasket and I keep missing sunny days so you can imagine the frustration but the bike seems solid and well balanced looking forward to the summer commute!

I have a few bits outstanding before she is truely road worthy though such as service the forks indicator change etc... Then ill be looking to sort out the plastics as many of then are cracked and scuffed presumably the bike has been through a few teenagers before my step son lol

ebc ck4436 fits kawasaki from the 1970's or 80's

lucas MCC201-6


the hard starting goes away if you run fuel with no ethanol
mine started this spring ..with very little fuss after a winter on the front sidewalk
and trust me it was not a nice winter...


also lean it over to the right a bit and drain the float bowl every once in a while
little screw on the left side bottom is the drain

as i have said before these things are just a large MOPED so do not flog them for more than they can give....

Hi, old thread but new bike to me. Any instructions for clutch adjustment at the basket? At the moment it seems liked the engine is being dragged down by the clutch and stalling when the clutch is pulled in, no more adjustment available at the lever. Was there any info on the thickness of gasket?

about as thick as 20lb printer paper but gasket paper
and a paper punch is best for making the holes
use the outer case to make a trace of size

in my area the gasket paper is getting hard to find
