mz rt 125 Fan issues

Hi guys,
Just got myself an 11 year old mz rt 125 which Dave gave me good pointers on. But recently i ve noticed fan for the radiator not spinning. Does it only kick in when overheating or it should be on all the time??
Bike runs fine but havent done long trips yet. Please advise me

mine has ran only a few times over the years
Has to be a very hot day and set and idle a lot

unplug it and hook to 12 volts and let it run once in a while so it does not set up
that way when it does turn on it might run
my area is having a heat wave now we are seeing some of the hottest days in years

aug 2002 to now and almost 21,000 miles
so i have seen a lot of what goes wrong

NOW its my wheel rims.. need to remove the tires from rims
and clean the rims and tire bead coat the rim with epoxy paint
and new valve cores

its been leaking air at the bead to the point i have to pump it up 2 or 3 times a week
on both wheels
but its been raining to the point that riding the bike or the mower is impossible
