Replacement pattern BVF 30N2

Further to my last post! I purchased a brand new pattern BVF carburettor in the hope that it would cure my running problems but it had its own set of problems much to my frustration. The new carburettor is extremely well made considering it was quite reasonably priced and was sold as a replacement for the ETZ but was supposed to fit the TS250/1 as well. All parts are well engineered and fit together with close tolerances. Now then - onto the problem. The carburettor was easy to install and the bike started within a few swings of the kick-start but each time I tried to pull away the engine just cuts out! The engine revs in neutral and ticks over a treat but refuses to run on anything more than minimum throttle. I tried adjusting the float level from 31mm, as supplied, to 25mm where the fuel overflowed. I also tried adjusting the slide needle in its grooves from top most to bottom all to no avail. I'm sure I'll be able to return the carburettor and get my money back but I'd rather have the new carburettor working as it should do. Again - any help/advice would be great

There have been a lot of reports that the BVF copies being , well to put it frankly, crap. Try coparing the slide out of your old carb with the one of the new one, because once you come off the pilot jet ( around 1/8th throttle) it's the slide cutaway that controls the engine.

It's a copy. Like 99% of stuff coming out of Hong Kong!

Have now returned the faulty carburettor for a refund and have been lucky enough to source a replacement BVF 30N2-4 carburettor. The bad news is the carburettor is off a bike that had been languishing in someone's back garden for 26 years but on stripping the carburettor the good news is it hasn't seen lot of wear and also hasn't been messed with. The carburettor has now been thoroughly cleaned and reassembled ready for a try out on my MZ tomorrow.

My brother bought one of the replacements. It ran like crap. UNTIL we put in the original jets from his original carburettor (which had a slide problem). Runs great now that i've tuned it appropriately. But I am still dubioud of them regardless. I was lucky enough to have a 30n3 that was also caked in old oil/petrol for 13 years The jets were blocked the float was siezed. I managed to get it all free and running by leaving it in lemon juice and turning it every few hours. Then I was able to take out the old jets and either clean them or install new ones I bought (which for some reason doesn't contain the idle jet-wtf). I did have to do some work cleaning the channels of the carb when attempting to tune the carb after installing. Which, with petrol flowing through it would either or both clear or block various gets until I had got it completely clean. Renovating an old carburettor is good when it comes to MZ carburettors. They are relatively simple enough to be able to clean thoroughly and my bike is running pretty swell.

It's a damn shame regarding the pattern carburettors as they're actually well made and very reasonably priced. My second hand carburettor seems to be working a treat so pretty chuffed!

I have since been told that the replacement carburettors work ok on the ETZ 250 models but not the TS 250 for some reason. There are always some people who will assume that because it's a copy then it must therefore be "crap" but having had one of the carburettors, and even though it didn't actually work correctly, it was very well made! I did buy another new carburettor before I discovered that it won't work on my TS and if anyone wants it then it's £20 plus whatever the postage is.
