Clutch Rumble

Took the recently acquired ETZ out for a shakedown ride tonight - seemed to go reasonably well, and much better after I adjusted the carb.

One thing that is evident and that is a rumbling sound comming from the clutch.

Pull the clutch lever in and the noise dissapears, let it out it comes back.

Guess it's a bearing but which one - any suggestions welcome.

Clutch works fine by the way and with no slipping.

Clutch rattle is a very normal problem on just about any older motor car or bike. I have it on my Peugeot 205.
I also get it pretty badly on my Honda CX500.

I've not encountered it on my MZ's. It has quite a large bearing on the clutch basket compared to other motorcycles.

It's most likely the main bearing which the lever operates against (on the outside). Infact I imagine there is only one bearing (the one that you see on the outside). Most of the time there is only one.

It's easy to pop the clutch off and have a feel I suppose. With the advent of the internet good quality bearings are very competitive these days.

Pulled off the primary cover yesterday.

I have ordered a clutch puller as all is not well.

Not clear from the manuals that have but it appears that the pinion on the rear of the clutch that drives the large pinion on the gearbox may be rivited to the clutch basket in some way. If I hold the clutch you can rock the large pinion back and forth - clearly there is play where there should not be.

Once I have the clutch puller I'll be able to see just what the problem is.

Had to go for a ride on my KH 500 today as the weather was so nice, always said that you need more than one bike
