Hi All,
I was not sure where to stick this post, but as it could be relative to quite a few models, her it is. As you may have read, I am doing a referb on 2x Saxon Tour's. One I have just finished the other is still in 6 or 7 boxes, anyway, I will call it, the good one is now ready for mot, but when I first bought her she had no sparks, but thanks to Edgar at Powerdynamo that got sorted, she had sparkes so a quick fire up and I thought brilliant. Did the referb, about 3 months, fine. She is now ready for mot I thought here we go so start up and away. Well start up, would it hell, 3 days I have been kicking my heart out to no avail, checking the ignition, carb off and checked over again, no joy then I thought the one thing I hadn't checked was the air filter, it was in a very poor condition so as the air was restricted she was flooding too much. I feel such an idiot, but there you go, new filter a couple of kicks and bingo big smiles and I think I will have a glass or two this evening. Anyway the reason for this post, don't forget the filter!!!

It is sometimes an overlooked thing on MZ's.. After all, unlike a lot of bikes and cars esspecially these days they don't get so dirty as quickly due to the lack of re-circulation filter techniques that have been implemented within the last 40 years in a way to cut down on emissions and dirt.

You've actually reminded me to check my own filter

the rotax powered model i have you need to remove the battery to get at the filter that no shops in the usa have in stock

i use the one out of the bmw chopper james bond rode in one of the movies with an adapter

Hi guys,
Thanks for your thoughts, Honestly, If you had seen the state of that filter, it was mouldy and falling apart, I felt such a fool when I saw it though. Mind you when the ding ding ding started it makes you forget the 3 days of killing my left leg. Tomorrow morning first thing the Z goes for its MOT so fingers crossed etc. Incidently the reason for the demise of the filter was probably because the bike was garaged in a cast concrete garage with a plastic roof, it was so wet, in West Yorkshire, cold and wet very often. If she passes, and it should, I can start building the second one.

It's easier and a much better technique to beo ff the bike standing on the left hand side of the bike and use your right foot.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice on the leg, but the problem is when your head is not 80 yrs old yet but the legs have decided otherwise so you have to kick it over with which ever leg will go high enough to do it, and in my case it's the left one. I start her on the centre stand, change over to the prop and then it's just low enough for my right leg over. She passed the MOT this morning though, GREAT.

the inspections in my state are getting to be a problem
in some counties there are no inspection stations for cars or bikes
and people are having to do a round trip of close to 100 miles to get inspected
independent shops are licensed to do them and are not renewing there license

it ties up a service rack they can make more money on doing oil changes and brake jobs on

Hi Dave,
It's a pitty that all the licence shops do not renew and then there would not be testers, and in any case it's well known that bikers look after their bikes a lot better than motorists for obvious reasons. You don't want bits falling off when your winding it up a bit.
