Just a quick intro. My son recently purchased a new left over 2002 125 SX from our local MZ dealer (Portland Oregon) and I signed up for this list to help with spare parts, mods, general repair info.
This forum has already been helpful. Turned out his idle problem was the result of a sticky enrichment (choke) plunger. We disassembled and lubed it and the bike idles fine now. Probably corroded from sitting around the dealer's shop for three years.
We bought the SX because he hasn't gotten his street license yet and it can be used for trail riding in the meantime. We had to take the signals and mirrors off (not before he broke a few). He's already broken the clutch lever and snapped the left rear plastic (repairable). He also bent the handlebars which we replaced with generic ones from the local bike shop. But he really likes it and I think for $2000 it makes a pretty good first bike. I am waiting to register it until he can ride it but then I think I might take a quick ride or two. It looks like fun.
The local dealer is really nice to work with, but they have limited access to parts and limited product knowledge. They have no new MZs in stock and have not seen a new bike for quite some time. They also sell Guzzis and Triumph. There are no Guzzis to sell either so they are basically just a Triumph dealer these days.
Does anyone know if the 125 SX is supposed to come with a tool kit? Ours did not and we are thinking it got lost someplace in the last three years. I was going to go purchase the tools listed in the owners manual and put them in a spare tool roll for my son to carry on the bike. Any suggestions on how useful that collection of tools will be?
Thanks!
