Heated grips on a 500R

Hello folks, I thought I'd fit heated grips on my 500R but I've got a snag. The twist grip is the same as the MZ ETZ?? Because of the MZ design of the twist grip it has a clearance between the twist grip steel sleeve and the handlebar, most twist grips I've seen run a close fit on the 22mm handlebar. The twist grip steel sleeve on my bike is 28mm OD but the ID of the heated grip is 26mm which will fit every other bike on the planet other than MZ's! The heated grips are from R&G Racing and of good quality. Because the heated grip has a heating element imbedded in it the grip is not flexible like a normal rubber grip and normal methods like warming the grip have no effect . I could buy a universal fit replacement twist grip which would accept my heated grip but they all need a barrel type nipple on the cable end whereas the MZ cable end has a very small ball like nipple. I could then of course buy a different cable but I can't help thinking there must be an easier way.
Any ideas??
