Skorpion: engine starter does not turn after 1 year storage

Postby WaiNYC » Tue Apr 28, 2020 5:10 pm

The bike has been in storage for one year. It is not starting now. Battery is OK, fuel line is OK. When the Start button is pressed, there is one "click" sound coming from right behind the battery, but the starter does not turn. And somehow, the N indicator is not lit even when gear is in neutral, but all other indicators are OK.

The engine last worked one year ago.

Any idea where it fails?

Do you need to pull the clutch to allow it to start, normally?

Neutral light switches stick i had to replace my recently.
I would be inclined to remove the starter motor to see if it has seized thru lack of use and if it spins up away from the engine, the click you hear is the starter solenoid.

Yes if the Neutral indicator is not lit, that suggests an issue with the N switch & that may cause problems, but if you hear the solenoid come out, that indicates it wants to start & that the starter does get power. In that case the issue might be in the starter motor (brushes? try tapping the starter motor). But it might also be another relay you hear, instead of the solenoid. I do not know this specific bike.

Anyway, check if the starter motor gets power, if so the problem is in that motor, if not it's something like a safety switch erroneously preventing you to start it (neutral, clutch, sidestand).

@Blurredman, @breakwellmz, @Puffs, @Dave Thompson... Thanks very mucch guys. The problem was indeed bad connection with the starter motor. The bike starts right up w no problem now.
