TS125 ignition switch

Good morning gentlefolk.
I've just started work on a 1984 TS125 that hasn't done much (if anything) for 17 years, so I want to get it running.
Compression is good, new battery, healthy spark and fresh 33:1 in the float chamber....but no joy yet so carb off next.
The ignition switch is a bit confusing though. There seems to be 6 positions with 5 & 6 both lighting the ignition light - and the speedo & rev counter illumination too. What the heck do they all do and which is best for starting and running? I get a spark using 5 or 6.

(I'm really impressed at the almost total absence of rust on this bike.)

TS 150 from 1984 uses 1:50 oil ratio.
Not 1 : 33

And the more the better is not right in this case....

Like Puffs, I use 33:1 in a TS125/150.
Reason...I bought the bike which had a genuine low mileage but the main bearings were scrap. Maybe the owner ran the bike on just petrol only (he wasn't available to ask) So I use one and half capfuls of oil per gallon which is roughly 33:1 It runs fine but note: you should richen the mixture by using a larger main jet as the jet will be passing slightly less petrol (more dilution from the extra oil per gallon) and the viscosity of the fuel is now slightly thicker. So using more oil in the pre-mix without changing the jetting, the engine will be running slightly leaner and slightly hotter too with slightly less power to boot.

I really appreciate the helpful advice given here guys - I'd be stuck without it since I've had nothing but Jap in-line fours for donkey's years now.
The good news is that it started and sounds ok - delighted!
Needless to say I have more questions though. The amber light on the speedo lights up with the ignition but stays on during the engine running, irrespective of engine speed. Does that indicate that the battery is not charging?

Most likely....To Test: Insert an ammeter in series with the positive lead that feeds the battery (an old one from a bike is OK) An analogue type of meter is easier to read than a digital one for this task as a digital one you will see numbers changing all over the place. Otherwise use a 21w 6V bulb instead..it should light up brighter the more you rev the engine.

Aha, smart thinking! That makes sense although I may need a new/red ignition bulb - no problem to test and replace.
I'll just wait for my wife to grant me a weekend Garage Pass. (Anyone else married to a German lady? Wait...is it even legal for me to say that?)

Switch positions for a Ts 125-150 are (on a clock face) six o'clock. ignition on. Five o'clock. everything off. Seven o'clock. sidelights. Eight o'clock. diplight. Four o'clock. parking side lights. Three oclock starting with flat battery

Everything seems to be working - I've fitted the new battery and had the carb off and given in a good clean...and it runs! Given my ham-fisted ineptitude that's really quite surprising.
I need to source a clutch lever and possibly a throttle twist grip too, then it'll be complete. But I've moved house and running out of garage space (it's bike number 5 and there's a couple of old cars in there too) so I may have to be open to offers.
If anyone's interested give me a shout.
