how to repair this tubed tire ?

HI folks... First time for me to post in this section of the forum... So, over the weekend, I ran over a nail and it got stuck in the rear tire. Luckily the penetration was at such an angle that it did not puncture through and no air pressure was lost.

FYI, this is a tubed tire. The bike is not an MZ but a BMW airhead.

Questions : Is it necessarily to repair this tire ? If so, how? Something I can do my own or need professional help? What do you think? Thank you for the help.

replacement seems to be the best idea

i went flat on both the front and rear once..1972 R75/5

fellow departed a lumber yard and dumped a bunch of little nails
i had 12 in the front and 16 in the rear

about 1 minute later a police car rolled to a stop behind me he had 4 flats
and one of the other police cars got the truck stopped

his building contractors insurance was not very happy

did that to a new tire on a 64 vw bug the tire had a road hazard replacement guarantee
and it happened less than 3/4 of a mile from the tire shop just after a new install

The damage is quite excessive.
I agree with David, safest thing is to just replace the tire

As Puffs says, as long as there is no damage to the inner belt no real strength has been lost.. Just take a look at the photograph of the tyre, you will see huge cuts or grooves all the way around the tyre made during manufacture. They are, of course, called the tread pattern. Years ago many professional bike racing teams cut deep grooves across with a sharp knife all the way round the tyre to create wet weather tyres out of slicks. These were superior to moulded wet weather tyres so if tyres can survive racing speeds and forces after being lacerated all the way round just a small cut like your one is no concern...IMOH of course....

Take it off, put some rubber solution in crack. Then sell it on your gay or Gummzee as low mileage, little used. As you will not be the only one to try this. As some people don't care about other people's lifes
