Best tyres for longevity and grip, especially in the wet.

I've used a wide variety of cheap tyres. I buy them (and then I fit them) from oponeo.co.uk.

I tend to only go for the imperial sizes- but I keep telling myself that there may be more choice or cheaper tyres available with metric sizes.

That said, here is what I've had and how long they have lasted until what I have now, for both my MZs..

251
FRONT - (33K, Used Michelin (thanks Puffs) MT45 3x18) - (40.25K, Duro HF319 3x18)
REAR - (30K, Duro HF319 3.5x16), - (38.1k, Heidenau K33 3.5x16) - (45k - Duro HF319 3.5x16)

250
FRONT - (19.3K, Heidenau K39 - 2.75x18) - (31K), Michelin (thanks Puffs) MT45 3x18)
REAR - (19.3K, Heidenau K36 3.25x18) - (25K, Mitas H-03 3.5x18) -

I have a Mitas H-03 3x18 ready to go on the rear of the 250 when the time comes - it's a bit small at 3" and it'll look a little odd but I didn't like it being a front wheel as it isn't really a front wheel kind of tyre so decided to remove it and well.. why waste £41...

Just had four metzeler me22s fitted to my Jawa 350 and etz250 by Motorcycle Tyre Shop in Porth, South Wales. £240 all-in including fitting to the bikes. That even included replaced two of the tubes.
That's what I call great value!
:D :) :-) :o

I agree. I like ME22's, they're grippy and they look nice and suit the bikes.

The metzelers look a pretty tyre imo. Ive just fitted a Conti Go tyre new old stock at the front so I'll see how that rides when I get my head round it. I buy for best value premium even if its an older tyre as opposed cheap cheap

Just to be clear on this, everybody ...

MZ's
MOT's
Me22's
All WRONG. There's NO apostrophe.
MZs
MOTs
Me22s ... correct!

Thank you!

Thanks JawasandMZs for the Grammar lesson and you are correct. On the subject of spelling and speaking, I recently heard that it is now deemed to be impolite, even aggressive to put a full stop after a sentence    ...Who says? Well it's the "snowflake" kiddywinks that now overly impact the world and have now decided that the letter T midway in any word must never be pronounced or you might sound too posh. Then there's the TH at a start of any word that must be pronounced as a blatant F to sound really street -wise. A well known exponent of this "style" is Billy Monger who appears on the TV Channel 4 F1 programmes. The there is the word "LIKE" injected into every sentence they speak and the ridiculous style that makes every sentence rise up in pitch to make them all sound like questions.....GRRRRRH....I find all these styles of talking excruciating to listen too. So when it comes to the common or garden " Grocer's apostrophe" mistake, I can live with that all day.... :|

Correct Les. You can defend/ justify practically anything on the premise of it being less bad than something else. The thing about greengrocer's apostrophe is the extra effort involved of shift, look for the appropriate key, unshift, carry on ... if people mis-spel out of laziness then fair enough.
My all--time fave has to be "between you and I" because it's used by pretentious people trying to sound posh.

I agree again with what you say and I appreciate your lesson. Although the apostrophe used for plurals is wrong at least it demonstrates (to me) that the writer is making some conscious effort in trying to use punctuation, it's obviously a genuine innocent mistake and not pretentious in any way. I, hopefully, will remember this so thanks again. I was born and brought up in Tottenham, North London and I have never forgotten the time when replying to a teacher's question " Have any of your relations ever attended this school?". I replied "Yes sir, me uncle and me aunt"....The teacher reeled back in horror. "ME uncle and ME aunt? " "What on earth are you saying boy" I was deeply embarrassed but the lesson was made. Now today even the BBC encourage their commentators to use the word "gonna" when they mean "going to"...How times change. :(

Hi Guys,
Before I get to the grammar bit, I agree with Puffs on the tyres and on most of my bikes I run on ME77 as not only do they grip well they also look good with the bikes, the Z's that is. Being a Londoner I often put me this or that, instead of my but to be honest, it's on purpose because I want to and being an old faart I can, and it often looks a little friendlier. Also of course, grammar is subject to where you are in the country, especially in the Yorkshire area or Scotland.
Plus if you are riding a ring ding dinger you can't be too posh, can you?
Inciently Les, I originally come from Woolwich, and married in Silver Town.
Stay safe Alan.
