Starter Clutch

Postby bdalameda » Thu Sep 09, 2004 12:47 am

I own two MZ 125 FunX bikes. I have had the starter clutch (free wheel) fail on one recently. I cannot locate a replacement and Motorrad is out of stock. Does anyone here know where I can find one?? Dealers out here stock very few parts and it looks like it may be several weeks until I can get one from Germany. Can anyone reccommend a dealer that actually stock spares for these bikes in the US? I would really appreciate any help!

Thanks

Dan

this is a common part to break shame on
mzna that they cant seem to keep them in stock
freewheel links

http://www.atkusa.com
they sold some funx bikes as 125 enduro style bikes
and may have some

Here is a direct link to part on greman web site

it took mz na 40 days to get me one

i run yamaha oil for four cycle bikes
proper and clean oil is required for this device to work properly
always put bike in neutral when starting it as transmisson and clutch drag
may overload it causing it to fail
never run bike backward while in gear freewheel will try to turn starter backwards breaking the freewheel
always use the crankshaft locking tool when working on things
attached to eather side of the crank ie removing the generator magnet
rotor as you may bust the free wheel by turning it backwards
or working on clutch or timing chain
even using a air impact on the transmisson output sprocket puts
it at risk as most people lock the transmisson in gear and hold the foot break if the impack hammers the wrong direction GOODBY freewheel
i have got to the point i just remove the starter so its not running aganist
any thing when i work on the bike

So what are the symptoms of a failing starter clutch? How about a failed starter clutch? If the part fails, are you dead in the water?
Relax. You'll live longer.

i had mine failed a few weeks ago(at 56k(km))...when i pressed the starter switch..i can hear the starter motor running but it doesn't crank(may hear slight rattling noise)...got it fixed though....no signs nor symptoms...it just failed...

a friend told me that if it fails....let the motor cool down completely...
then put in second gear and bump start it...
i've tried this when my bike was worm, so it didn't work for me....

just don't continue pressing the starter switch when it fail...wouldn't want to burn the starter relay now,do we?haha

so...if it fails...you're pretty much screwed
