dry sump oil line needed

Postby daiku96 » Tue Mar 30, 2021 2:52 pm

Greetings MZ friends,

I have a 2006 Skorpion Sport and need to replace the dry sump oil (return?) line on the left hand side of the bike. The rigid line on the bike has cracks in it at the oil tank.

Does anyone know where a fella might find an original?

Thank you for any input.

Got it this time, David. Thank you.

It looks like it's #1 on the schematic. I guessed it was an oil return line but it is described as the vent line. The one on the bike is cracked at the oil tank and spewing oil upon start up. It seems to be made of nylon or some other semi-rigid material and it's I.D. is 3/8" but the O.D. is not standard hose sizing... it is quite thin walled.

I've replaced these on several of my Skorpions - you can use standard 3/8 or 5/16 (check the barbed fitting OD on the oil tank to confirm) fuel or oil hose from the local auto part store. Pick up a 5 foot long section. you might need some small hose clamps also - those wire compression clamps are intended for a metric hose.

The first time I had one of those hoses leake in covered the rear tire with oil!

Thanks for the input, DRoy.

I've picked up some 3/8" I.D. hose in the appropriate length and, before installing it, just wanted to see if the original replacement part was out there. I'm prepping the bike for sale as I'm just a little bit too big for her and need some room in the garage for other two wheeled projects I have on hand. The bike runs great with a Mikuni flat slide in place of the stock carb set up. It may warm up enough today to get her out for another ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway!

Once the work is completed I'll post her pics on here for those that may be interested in becoming a new owner.

Cheers, mate!

understood - Grahams in the UK will be the only one with a stock hose.

Please share a few photos of the single carb setup!

I put the Skorpion back together yesterday and took her out to stretch her legs after Winter hibernation. She ran wonderfully for the 80 mile loop two lane ribbon of asphalt through the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Returned to find both fork legs leaking oil.

Now the search begins for a fork rebuild kit (new seals, springs, etc)

Any helpful input is most welcome.

Thanks again, friends.

Fork seals are generic and readily available you just need to find someone who made a note of the numbers on them when they changed theirs!
Why would you want to change fork springs unless it was for progressive ones?
Here is my cheap `n cheerful single carb setup, don`t laugh it works really well! -

Nice work there, mate!

Re: fork springs: I thought I'd up the rate for my 210 lbs. You're right, I probably shouldn't bother, it's just that when I get into something I tend to go a bit overboard.

What weight fork oil (if different from what the manual specification is) is preferred for the Skorp?

Thanks.
Don`t know about fork oil for yours (I have a Mastiff) but i just Googled MZ Skorpion fork seal numbers and up they came!
I then put those numbers into Ebay and came up with these amongst many others - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from ... cat=178039
What is the source of the manifold that joins your single carb to the two inlet ports?
My carb is a pumper CVK 40 intended for a Harley BTW.
