Some years ago I had a similar fault on my TS150(6 volt), with wildly fluctuating voltage and brief spikes which maxed out the multimeter. It turned out to be a faulty spark plug cap, and was cured by a replacement.

Yes, you have done well to keep an MZ regulator working, although I am not sure that 13.5 V will be enough to keep the battery charged.
If the EM field from the coil and leads can generate high voltage in the leads of a multimeter, is there not a danger that it will do the same in the bikes own wiring, in particular wires leading to semiconductors.

i have found the new testers to be a pain

i have several high power hf radio transmitters on my property that relay amateur radio messages

the new testers do not want to work correct so i use a meter made the year before i was born
to get the job done
the new stuff gets overloaded very easy

i have a antenna tuning box for my ham radio antennas
there are 3 am broadcasters on towers less than 1 mile from my house 1050 1230 and 1450

to check my antennas with it i have to wait till the high power station (5000 watts)
drops to its night time power of 163 watts at night

and the multi meters also settle down

things have improved here also the 1450 am radio station moved its transmitter
about 10 miles north of me I have to listen to it on its FM translator at 98.1 as it is now hard to hear it at night on am
it plays oldies rock which i like
so
I can now use some of my test gear in the day time

@david thompson. Here in UK they are trying to get us all on DAB or online radio, only a matter of time before they switch off FM. One reason I stick to my old Android 8 phone is most of the newer ones have the FM radio function disabled.
@puffs. Thanks for the update, some don't bother. But I still prefer 9Ah and my HC Cargo 130675.

store owners here are mad ..the newspapers are all closing and there using commercial radio and TV
to promote store sales ( much more expensive )
so doing away with the radio broadcasters is a bad deal
for local radio and the people need to see where to buy things

also some stations are doing local news on radio it had gone away for a while
the grocery stores sponsor the local news reports
and all so the local USA style football Friday or sat night
high school games

its all changing several free 3 or 4 page local paper sheets report news and advertisements
and appear on counter tops in restaurants and service stations
