MZ No.4

Postby alan jackson » Tue Dec 14, 2021 4:41 pm

I have recently bought a '95 Skorpion Traveler and am still getting used to it. Gearing has been raised above normal. I am enjoying it at the moment but initial criticisms are: Seat is a bit too hard, footrests are too high and far back, even though they are on the lowest and farthest forward setting, and the power seems far below the stated 48BHP and more like a '50s 500 (say 25 to 30 bhp). No doubt I will get used to it.
Previous MZ started with a TS250 with a bent frame passed on by my brother. Less said the better!
Next came a G5 Six Days Replica - enjoyed it almost to destruction, but never gave to performance it was supposed to.
Last MZ was a TS150 (really my wife's). A great little bike that rarely let us down and we did many miles on it.

Hi, and welcome!

No experience with the 4t bikes, so I can't advise you there! The only thing I can think about RE power is that most power ratings are 'SAE', which means at the crank. When you remove drive train etc, the HP output at the wheel is often less.

My CX500 is stated to have 50hp, but it's 30hp at the wheel. And at a weight of 500lbs you can feel it.
1973 MZ ES250/2 - 17,000 miles
1979 Suzuki TS185ER - 9,000 miles
1981 Honda CX500B - 91,000 miles
1987 MZ ETZ300 - 38,000 miles
1989 MZ ETZ251 - 50,000 miles

Following a biased and flawed moderator choice (someone posting aggressive personal attacks is rewarded, while my technical posts are removed - behind my back & without any justification!), I have withdrawn from this forum.

You might have a restricted version and higher than standard gearing just makes it worse as they are high geared as standard, what gearing is on it?
