125 SM WITH A JAPANESE 250 2 STROKE !!

Postby bruno » Sat Aug 20, 2005 12:07 am

Someone please tell me it is doable.I've just read an article in BIKE magazine about a superbike shootout where a 91 Yamaha 250 tdr with an 250 tzr engine (45 hp) went around the track faster than 05 R1s.Imagine an engine like that in the SM for street use..
Please help..Has anyone tried anything like this? Can the SM's chassis, brakes, sprockets, wheels etc. handle around 40 hp (most 250 strokers do this or better and there is a million of them out there)
Any info is greatly appreciated.

The chassis could handle the motor. Torque on a 2 stroke is less than a four stroke. Even though the HP on the 2 stroke is more, the torque is probably not that mush different.

What I would worry about is the top speed that you will reach with that kind of power. I get an slightly annoying head wobble at around 80 (indicated). You may want to consider a steering damper if you go this route. I would also consider running street only tires for that kind of speed.
