Bastion’s A-36 Tactical Grenade Gets a New Model in Overwatc

Overwatch 2 has introduced a unique model for Bastion’s A-36 Tactical Grenade ability, a long-awaited change that was not mentioned in the patch notes. For the first time since its introduction in Overwatch 2, Bastion’s alt-fire now features an actual model.

Bastion's rework in Overwatch 2 was one of the most significant, with the lovable robot losing his Self-Repair and his Sentry and Tank modes in favor of the Assault and Artillery configurations. Additionally, the A-36 Tactical Grenade replaced his old alt-fire. However, until now, the A-36 lacked a distinct model, appearing instead as a textureless sphere surrounded by explosive VFX.

In Overwatch 2 Season 14, the A-36 Tactical Grenade finally gets its own design. The grenade now appears as a metal cube with six glowing yellow faces. This model change wasn't documented in the patch notes, but it is live in the game.

Currently, Bastion's new grenade model is the same across all of his skins, and it is not included in the skin preview like other weapons, projectiles, and constructs. It remains to be seen if this will change in the future, much like how Orisa’s Legendary skins received unique Energy Javelins in the mid-Season 13 update.

Fan reception has been mixed, with some players questioning the choice of a cube, especially since it’s fired from a round barrel. Others, however, are just happy to see the featureless ball replaced with something more visually appealing. Regardless, the update is a welcome change after over two years of seeing the grenade’s textureless form.

Bastion players have additional reasons to celebrate in Season 14. Players who watch four hours of Overwatch 2 on Twitch by December 20 can unlock the Legendary Fire Engine Bastion skin and the Ganymede spray for free. As a Legendary skin, Fire Engine Bastion may eventually receive a unique Tactical Grenade model, giving players a glimpse of future updates.
