I have not been to the Ear in years but thought I might stop by Tuesday see if I run into any old friends. Any one else go there from here?

I rode NYC on Saturday, saw the bike show at Rockefeller center, and they had a huge open air market going on six ave. I had the front wheel blow out on my Baghira on the Jersey Turnpike going home. Fell off it going aleast 75 mph, and stopped traffic on the turnpike. It was pretty spectacular. The cops called for a tow truck, but before it arrived I straightened the handlebars and fixed the flat (i was carrying spare tube and air) and split. I am feeling pretty fortunate- grace of God.. :P

Wheres the "Ear"?

Damn lucky there. I had an RZ350 lockup once on the Jersey Turnpike at about 65-70 pulling the cluth did not help and I somehow slid to a stop without falling. I did flat spot the tire though :-D

The directiosn for the Ear are correct let me know if you plan on coming so we can hook up a time.

I was wearing boots, jeans, helmet, and a TEE SHIRT! My Aerostich jacket was safely tucked away in the trunk-dumb! I also had my new $400 camera around my neck. I had just rode thru Harlem and took some video on 125th street. I had intended on stopping and putting the camera away and donning my jacket, however next thing I know, heres the GW bridge. I didn't have a chance to save it, it was like being on ice, I was in the left lane and careened to the right across all the lanes before I fell. The bike bouced off the curb/guardrail and came to rest in the center lane. I got up immediately, the only damage to me is a lot of skin missing off my right forearm. The camera still worked so I took a picture and will try to upload it. I had just installed crashbars on the bike last week, (nick o time<g>) and left the radiator shrouds off, which was a good thing, they are unscratched out in the garage. I broke 2 turnsignals, bent handlebars, crushed right pannier (but it's still useable), broke mirror, and put a lot of scratches on it. I was nothing but happy and grateful to be alive, the cop couldn't understand why I was so happy. I got a few ideas on how to lessen the chances of this happening again, I'll let you guys know whatI do.

What I am doing differently.....

Postby DEmark » Sun Jun 13, 2004 9:02 pm

Following the hi speed getoff I had when I picked up a staple in my front tire, causing the tire to go flat and bead break loose from the rim I have took the following action:
Installed new tires front and back (Avon Distanzia)
Install "Monster Tubes" from Dualstar (4mm wall)
Installed 2 rim locks on each wheel
slimed both wheels

It's still not as good as mag wheels & tubeless tires, but I think my chances of surviving the next blowout are better. When I return from Mexico I'm going to install my FCR's and adapt my Skorpion wheels to it, Have me a Motard. Then we can have a "backing it in contest" you up to it Phat? <g>

Scars & stars but thank God no cars!!! I just put a set of Distanzias on and like them a lot... although I do not thrash it around to really test them out. For what it's worth they are decent in the dirt too, IMHO better than the Corsas. I used the tubes that were in the original Corsas which lasted 7500km. How many miles/km did you have on the front that went down?
