making exhaust Y pipe in 1 week, anyone else want one also?

I have an upswept exhaust pipe setup that I had made for myself as a prototype. After lots of testing (30,000 road miles) this set-up not only added the power just simply takes this bike to where it needs to be performance wise. I used this set-up without jetting changes and had no problems. I can supply you a jet kit if necessary. I am suplying you with a profesionaly mfg. "Y" pipe (connects to the two head pipes and then to a commercially available GSXR 750 bolt on silencer) The bolt-on set-up looks trick and is sealed with a fire proof O-ring. I will also supply the rubber mounted, fully adjustable, exhaust bracket (aluminum and sano) with the pipe straps (stainless). I will get a quote this week and I will certainly get one for me, but if anyone wants to step up and get a real pipe setup, I will do it for cost. You can even send the check to the Machine shop, I dont want a cent, I just want to get this setup into the MZ community and to show there is a market for performance tid bits that are so lacking for this great bike. The pipe is not being given away for sure, but once in place this bike kicks major butt. Anyone interested let me know. Dwight

Dwight,

I think I'd be very interested. I've got the stock can on now, and I'm looking at all options. I figure that, for the next best option (the Holeshot) I'm going to need to do about the same amount of customization anyway.

A couple of questions about your plans:

1. Any idea what you're looking at for a unit cost? I figured that doing any exhaust is going to run me a couple of hundred for a custom connector. Probably the same for this one.

2. Are you planning on using the "double cone" adaptor method for the ones you're having fabricated, or have you figured something else out?

3. With the large can you're currently using (the one from the 'busa) do you have any problems with the can "bottoming out" on the tire when you compress the rear? I guess, even if it's a little wider than the stock and other replacements, I can always make my saddlebag stand-offs a little wider.

4. Are you going to need a "donor" for the y-side, or is that part of what you're having made?

Yesterday, I had a very long, in-depth talk with my machinest friend (3 time World shifter-cart Champion, Ken Deutch, he's the man). He suggest that the design is solid and this setup will shift the power to come on earlier. We have to build another Y pipe, using the one we have already constructed as a model. I dont want to use the "double cone" method as before (not cool looking enough). I want a section that is smooth and perfect like warm honey. The actual construction (production) will have to wait untill Ken makes a "marketable" version. He may make it using the same methods he uses to make his own 2 stroke pipes since this Y pipe has such a unique profile. After he makes it and sees what needs to happen I can get an accurate quote to make more (no profit to myself, like I said before), I'm definately making one for myself (I designed it, I better own one huh?) so I'll keep you posted. On a side note, Ken uses this "Water Jet" machine shop facility to cut the most sano brackets around. I will have the rather dull motor mount brackets made from nice, chunky aluminum. As well as the suspension "dog bones", so I'll keep you posted. Dwight

Yes, please keep us up to date. So far I am considering a whole bunch of free exhaust pipes from a buddy of mine, so need to figure out a mounting/welding, etc.

Yes, I'll certainly keep everyone posted. The motor-mounts and dog bones will be no great leap. I expect those to be ready very quickly in relation to the y-pipe. The parts will ship Tues. to the machine shop. I hope to hear estimates very shortly. Like I said before, I want to get the first 5 sets out there to the comunity. At absolute cost. Call it the R&D discount. Talk to you soon.
